Adult Intermediate Tabla Set. Perfect for adults and juniors who have out grown their beginner tabla, and are ready to take it to the next step. This set consists of a Wooden Treble and a Steel Bass, complete with traditional rings for the tabla to rest on and a padded carry case for protection. The Tabla is a prominent percussion instrument in Northern India, and now widely used in western music also. It is a set consisting of two drums. The metal drum with the broader head is the bass and is normally played with the left hand. It is called the Bahya or Bayan. The taller, treble drum is played with the right hand. It is sometimes called the Dahya or Dayan, but it can also simply be called tabla. It is tuned by hammering down upon the wooden reels (Tuning Pegs) to create tension. The Treble drum of the drum is made from a variety of different wood types. We source and use a variety of wood, from Sheesham, Sirish, Rosewood and even Mango wood. The Bass drum is made from a different variety of metals from Copper, Brass , Steal and aluminium. The drum heads themselves are made from the highest quality goats hide, and the highest quality shyah (black circle) for both bass and treble. The Tablas are precisely tuned in scale, and a final tune up is given to both drums before it leaves our store to the customer. The colour of wood/metal, drumheads and strapping may vary slightly from pictures, as this is a hand made instrument by our skilled craftsmen. We also offer a repair service for our drums, and replacement drum heads are available. If this service is required please feel free to email us with name and number and we will be happy to assist you over the phone or via email with any enquiries.
