Chimta. Chimta also is known as Chimpta bells, which is a percussion instrument used in Punjabi folk music. The chimtah is made from one length of steel folded with the middle made up off brass jingles attached to both sides. The chimta is played by holding the bottom of the instrument in one hand and striking both prongs together with the other hand allowing the brass jingles to rattle creating melodic sound. This sound is unique and is associated with the folk music of Punjab and usually accompanied by the dhol and dholak. The chimpta shaker is popular in Punjabi and folk songs, bhangra dancing, Bhangra music along with the Sikh, Hindu religious music known as Gurbani, Kirtan, and Bhajans. Chimtas are available in 4 Sizes ( No. of Jinggles).
